Ok gota tricky one here, well for me its tricky.

Daugthers pc goes thru start up windows xp home logo abd stuff comes upgoes thru the motions then I get a blue screen with cursor and nothing.
No desk top
No icons
No ctrl alt delete
Cursor moves ok but nothing looks to be working
Started in safe mode but get the same result...cursor and nothing else...strange huh
Any ideas?

i'd put in the xp install disc and try to fix the installation

If so it could possibly be that explorer is not launching correctly during startup.

This probably won't work, but try pressing ctrl+shift+escape. It's basically the same as ctl+alt+del, unless you have ctrl+alt+del set to give you different options.

If for some reason it does work, goto File>New Task (Run...), then type explorer.exe, and hit Ok.

This is probably a long shot, but I figure that it's worth a try.

I'll look into it and see if I can come up with anything else.

Just had another idea.

If the blue screen looks like that, I'm assuming you are able to enter login information. If you do get to the login screen, don't login with the regular account.

The problem could be that the account is corrupted.

At the login screen, hit ctrl+alt+del twice. This should bring you to a classic-style login menu where you can type in a username as opposed to clicking on one from a list.

Type "Administrator" without the quotes for the username, and leave the password field blank. If the problem is that the other user profile was corrupted, you should be able to log in as administrator. If hitting ctrl+alt+del twice, doesn't bring you to the classic-style login menu, try booting in safe mode, and using the same login info as above.
