Hey y'all! I'm back! Anyone miss me?Laughing

Between myself and another camper we shot 505 images. Thought I'd share a couple.

This tree was struck by lightning the day we got to camp. The same storm dropped so much hail in one city that they had to move it with front-end loaders like it was snow.

These little guys had the run of the camp. They were everywhere.

And finally I liked how the wild daisies looked.

To answer the lightning question of the day. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your POV) we didn't get to see the lightning strike. It happened about 30 minutes to an hour before we arrived at camp. I'm bummed that I didn't get to see the actual strike but I'm also glad that no one was around to get hurt by it.

I should have taken a shot of the ground to show the "blast" effect the lightning had. The ground was scorched and a hole was blown out that you could fit a golf ball into. The ground there is very sandy and I would have dug for the fulgerite but it's a conservation camp and I didn't think they'd be happy with me for digging there.

As for other photos I've got a bunch (505 I think the last count was). I'm going to pick a couple that I took specifically for PSC and resize them down for submission later today.

my new word for the day....made me look it up, Tofu

ful·gu·rite ( P ) Pronunciation Key (flgy-rt, -g-, fl-)
n.
A slender, usually tubular body of glassy rock produced by lightning striking and then fusing dry sandy soil.

[Latin fulgur, lightning; see fulgurate + -ite1.]

Grew up in the midwest with lots of lightning...never knew about fulgurite.

First thing I thought of Tofu, but it would have been tough to dig so close to the base of the tree, did you guys talk about Camel Spiders at the camp fire?

Eve: glad I could help you expand your vocabulary. Laughing I've always wanted to find a fulgerite. I think it'd be cool.

PVS: no we didn't talk about camel spiders. BUT there was a cave spider specimen in the "eco-con" area. It was a baby one so it only had a leg span of about 7". Shocked

Mason: I was going to take the cloth. But I forgot it. Embarassed

Oh man....
I have removed hundreds of trees because of lightening death.
I never even thought about those things.
I will start collecting them...if it turns out to be easy to collect them, I'll send ya one.
Our soil is sand...so they should be just about glass..right?
